Masters BY-LAW changed
For Masters-aged riders holding an Elite licence, the appropriate CA By-Law has been changed. It now allows for these licence holders to effectively compete in any elite open and championship events, which is no different to previous years, however now these riders can also contest their respective Masters category in the same year. Full Details:
(i) A Masters Racing licence would enable the rider to enter Masters category events and graded racing at club or club-combine level but would restrict them from contesting elite championships/opens.
(ii) An Elite Racing Licence would permit a masters-aged rider to enter any racing event including elite open and championship events, as well as contesting their respective Masters category Championship in the same year.
(iii) For all events where either an Elite or Masters field is available eg Preston Mountain Classic, the default entry will see cyclists automatically placed into the field corresponding to their membership category. I.e. A masters-aged cyclist holding an Elite licence will be placed into the Elite field and will need to contact CSV should they wish to race in the Masters field.
Two Records attempts: World Best Hour Times
On the 26th November two Women Masters riders Elizabeth Randall Division 7 and Shirley Amy Division 6 made an attempt at the World Best hour time for their respective Women Masters Divisions.
Both attempts took place at the DISC Velodrome and with the support of family and friends both riders competed with great strength and determination in what is describe as the hour of hell.
For her efforts Liz rode a distance of 37.48km which was around 2 km short of the previous record. Liz is looking to have this time recognised as an Australian Best Hour performance for the Women Masters 7 Division.
Shirley set a distance of 39.31 km and once this is ratified by the UCI will become a World Best Hour record for her division as no record exists at the moment.
Both ladies have to be congratulated on their performances, and showed that age is no barrier when it comes to sport.
