Wood picks up 3rd stage victory
Oenone Wood (Team Nurnberger) has claimed her third stage victory of this year's Tour de l'Aude in southern France winning the sprint at the end of the 107 kilometre stage into Limoux.
Wood's win came after she and six others broke away from the main field early in the stage to eventually establish a winning margin of almost two minutes by the finish.
The win has moved the 24 year old Canberra cyclist back into the top ten overall and she is now placed sixth, one minute behind race leader and reigning time trial World Champion Karen Thurig (SUI - Univega). Wood has also increased her lead in the points jersey competition. She now has 165 points, 69 points more than second ranked Joanne Kiesanowski of New Zealand (Nobili Rubinetterie).
There are three stages remaining in the ten day event with tomorrow promising to be a tough one for the top class women's field as they travel 115 kilometres from Arques to Quillan on a route that includes three category one climbs.
