About the STAR Series

The STAR Series is the Cycling Australia national track cycling series conducted over the summer months each year.

The principal objective of the STAR Series is to generate and encourage greater interest and participation in domestic track cycling.  This is targeted to be achieved by creating incentive for riders to race at STAR Series events, providing additional impetus for promoters to publicise their events and ultimately, lifting the profile of track cycling in Australia.

The STAR Series calendar ranks events into three categories;

  • Grand Prix: Australian Championship level plus one major Wheelrace
  • Category 1: Premier National Calendar carnivals
  • Category 2: Other National Calendar events

At each carnival, ranking points may be awarded to one event in each division for both men and women, as follows;

  • Sprint – order of preference: Keirin, Derby
  • Endurance – order of preference: Points, Elimination, Scratch
  • Handicap – Wheelraces

Madison – where a Madisonis conducted the results will be included in the endurance division

Ranking points will be awarded to the top 5 placegetters in the nominated STAR Series events on the following basis:

  • Only Australian / CA licensed riders will be eligible to accrue points;
  • STAR Series points will only be awarded in events confirmed and listed on the national STAR Series calendar;
  • Each of the 3 categories (Sprint, Endurance and Handicap) will be allocated stand alone points which are weighted in accordance with the National STAR Series category ranking of the promotion.Points will be awarded to the categories of events as follows;

Results will be collated and cumulative rankings posted on the CA website and e-mailed to promoters and state associations.  Also available for wider distribution and to relevant media

Series winners in each of the six categories will be presented with special STAR Series winner jerseys at the end of the series and a prize money pool – generated by series calendar fees and an equal contribution from CA – will be paid to the top four ranked riders in each category.

NB: The STAR Series rankings include Elite and U19 riders for both men and women categories.  At the Australian Track Championships (Keirin & Points) Elite championships will be awarded ‘grand prix’ ranking points and U19 Championships awarded ‘category 1’ ranking points.
