Women & Wheels
In mid-2011, Cycling Australia shared in funding from the Australian Sports Commission through the Australian Government’s Women in Sport Media Grants, an initiative to increase the exposure and reach of women’s sport in the Australian media.
In 2012, Cycling Australia, in association with SBS Television, presented the Cycling Australia 'Women & Wheels' Series.
The Series' objectives were;
- increase the media coverage of the CA Women’s National Road Series (NRS),
- raise the profile of elite female cyclists,
- increase profile & opportunities for current and former female cyclists,
- to increase awareness of, and opportunities for participation in, women’s cycling throughout Australia.
Delivered each week throughout 2012 on SBS' Cycling Central and subsequently through an array of online media channels, the series featured comprehensive video coverage of all events on the 2012 Women's NRS, interviews and profiles of current and former cyclists.
2004 Athens Olympic Games road race champion Sara Carrigan, 2007 points race world champion Kate Bates and 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Natalie Bates, featured throughout the series in hosting and commentary roles.
The Series will continue in 2013 and 2014 via the Subaru National Road Series.
