Aussie women one-two in Qatar

Wednesday, 30 January 2013

It was an Australian one-two finish in the first stage at the Ladies Tour of Qatar with Chloe Hosking (Hitec Products UCK) outsprinting recently crowned national road champion Gracie Elvin (ORICA-AIS) in Mesaieed.

The decisive break formed as the race took a sharp turn into the desert towards Al Wakra around the 45km mark before Hosking upped the pace with 20kms to go.

With Orica-AIS teammates and Specialized-Lululemon dominant up front, Hosking did well to keep pace.

Without a recognised sprinter in their midst, the ORICA-AIS unit sort to avoid a tight race to the line, and ultimately it was Elvin who faired best of the Aussie team, but Hosking was too strong.

"I had no expectations coming in as I had very little preparation done compared to the past, as all I'd done before now was the national championships, so I'm very happy to get the win here," said Hosking.
