Field of dreams for Courtney, NSW named Champion State in Adelaide

Victoria’s Courtney Field has been crowned Champion of Champions at the 2013 Cycling Australia Track Junior National Championships in Adelaide following a four gold medal haul.

Field, 15, secured her fourth gold medal of the Championships in the under 17 women’s 5km Scratch Race Final ahead of Bridget Mullany (NSW) and Kiara Dundas (QLD).

Field, who claimed the time trial, sprint and team sprint (with Brook Ramshaw) championships, also broke Kerrie Meares' 1997 flying 200m Australian record on Thursday, posting 12.063 to eclipse Meares' previous mark of 12.160.

Cameron Scott added the scratch crown to his time trial and sprint gold titles, with victory over Caiden Hull (VIC) and Alex Rendell (WA) in the under 17 men’s 7.5km Scratch Race Final.

Ronin Munro (TAS) bagged Tasmania’s second gold medal of the week when he defeated Godfrey Slattery (VIC) and new individual pursuit Australian record holder Isaac Buckell (VIC) in the under 15 men’s 5km Scratch Race Final.

In the under 15 women’s 5km Scratch Race Final Chloe Heffernan (NSW) took gold over Natasha Mullany (NSW) and Charlotte Thompson (VIC).

In the two under 17 keirin demonstration finals, Tahlay Christie (WA) won the women’s event over Kristina Clonan (QLD) and Nicola MacDonald (NSW), while in the men’s Stephen Ellul (VIC) took the honours ahead of
Kurt Santagada (VIC) and Rhee Rosslind (NSW).

New South Wales was also awarded with the Ray Godkin Shield for Champion State.

The 2013 Cycling Australia Junior Track National Championships was held from Wednesday 27 February to Saturday 2 March 2013 at the Superdrome, Gepps Cross, Adelaide.
