Shane Kelly OAM
On the subject of Awards, I am sure all members join with us in extending congratulations to Shane Kelly for his Order of Australia Medal received in the recent Australia Day awards. Shane’s outstanding performances on the track backed up by his service and commitment to the sport off the bike, have combined to make this award thoroughly deserved. Well done Shane Kelly OAM.
International Insurance
Good news on the overseas insurance front. We are pleased to have finally sourced an improved insurance cover for international licence holders. Key features of the new policy (being offered through Lloyds, London) are:
-
A 40% reduction on premium costs against the policy that has been available over the past five months.
-
A 75% reduction for short-term New Zealand trips.
-
The capacity to extend period of cover while overseas, without requiring a policy renewal.
The new international licence application form is now available on the CA website: www.cycling.org.au For details on international licences and overseas travel insurance contact Joanne directly at the CA office on 02 9644 3002 or email: joanne.cameron@cycling.org.au
Tri-Nations Track Challenge: 12 March – South Africa
Nominations are being called for Australian championship level cyclists interested in representing Australia in the 2004 Tri-Nations Track Challenge in South Africa on 12 March. The team size is limited to eight elite male cyclists. Competition will be between South Africa, Russia and Australia. For further information click here. Nominations close 6 February with the CA office.
National Coach Movements
A number of changes have taken place in national coaching positions since the resignation last year of Peter Day from the Queensland Academy of Sport cycling coach position. James Victor has stood down from the AIS women’s road position after seven years of international travel and has taken up the QAS role. Warren McDonald is the new AIS women’s road coach while Glenn Wilson has just been appointed to Warren’s former role of cycling coach at ACTAS. We wish all these coaches every success in their new positions.
CA website
CA was pleased to launch a ‘new look’ website in mid January. The process of uploading and updating content will progress steadily over the ensuing few weeks. However if you cannon find particular information in the short term a direct link to the old site is accessible on the new homepage.
You will also see a member log-in field on the homepage. This facility is not necessary to access the site, but rather, it will eventually enable members direct access to their membership details as well as facilitate on-line transactions and event entry. We will advise members as soon as possible when this facility is activated.
